Professional ExperienceFamily InformationPersonal Information

Educational History:

I graduated from high school at Kerr-Vance Academy in Henderson, North Carolina.  I attended my first two years of college at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina on a volleyball scholarship.  After my parents moved back to Texas, I followed them here to Waco where I attended and graduated from Baylor University in 1995.   Sic’em!

Degrees and Certifications:

I have a Bachelor of Science in Education with certification in Secondary English.  I am certified to teach Gifted and Talented and ESL.  I also attended Houston Montessori Center to obtain certification in the secondary classroom.  I believe in Montessori education, especially the secondary model developed by Dr. Elizabeth Coe.  I’m still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, so I would love to continue my education when my youngest son is a little older.

Current Position:

I started teaching in Bosqueville in January of 2016.  My youngest son was born in the fall of 2015, and I did not teach that semester.  We planned on me staying home for the rest of the school year, but the opportunity to teach in Bosqueville made me change my mind.  I teach 7th grade ELAR (English Language Art and Reading), and one 8th grade speech class.  I consider myself lucky to have my 7th graders twice a day.

Previous Position:

I have taught middle school language arts for 22 years.  I began teaching as a GT pullout teacher and middle school coach in Marshall Texas for one year before I moved back to the Waco area to coach and teach at Lorena Middle School.  I was there for five years and I taught the middle school Reading GT classes, and 5th and 6th Art and Speech.    I left Lorena to start a new volleyball program in the Carrolton Farmer’s Branch School District.  After the birth of my oldest son who is now a 10th grader, I took some time off from teaching and decided that coaching would not work for my family.  I spent 12 years teaching in Waco ISD before the birth of my second son in the fall of 2015.

Family Information:

I am married to my best friend, Jon Sutton.  We have a son named Grady who was born in October of 2015, and I have a son named Ethan who is going into the 10th grade in China Spring.  Jon has three boys, Brandon, Jacob, and Conrad who live out of state with their mother.  We get to see them in the summer and it is pretty interesting when there are SEVEN boys in the house!   My parents live in the Crawford part of the China Spring school district, and they are about seven minutes away from our house.  We enjoy spending time with them.

Personal Information:

When asked about “hobbies” I always forget how much I enjoy reading because it is such a part of who I am that it does not seem like a hobby.  I always have two or three books that I am reading.  My favorite kind of book to read is mysteries and I really like British mysteries.  Some of my favorite authors are:  Dick Frances, P.D. James, Patricia Moyes, Rhys Bowen, Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes, and Stephen King.  I also enjoy reading Young Adult novels so that I am better able to reccommend books to my students.  I enjoy and look forward to spending time with my family especially when we are able to take short weekend trips.
